Spring Happenings in Hanover County – 2024

With spring in full bloom, a visit from everyone’s favorite bunny around the corner and summer not too far away, be sure to mark your calendar with these springtime offerings in Hanover County.

Kings Dominion is open on Fridays and weekends.  Daily operations begin the week of Memorial Day, and Soak City opens Memorial Day Weekend.   Check the park’s events page for other fun offerings included in admission.

Patrick Henry’s Scotchtown offers interior tours Fridays through Sundays starting in March through December each year. A guided 45-minute exterior walking tour of the history and architecture is offered, but please call 804-227-3500 to confirm availability.  Self-guided cell phone tours are always available. Hanover Tavern, in partnership with the Hanover County Historical Society, is hosting Lafayette’s Return to Hanover on May 19, 2024 from 3 – 4:30 p.mSpend an afternoon with the Marquis de Lafayette as he recalls his experiences in America during the Revolution and on his return in 1824.  This event is free.  Click here to reserve a seat.  Visit Hanover Tavern’s events page for more offerings.

Join the Richmond Symphony at Randolph Macon College’s Blackwell Auditorium on Sunday, May 19 at 3:00 p.m. for an afternoon of Mozart and Spirituals with Associate Conductor Chia-Hsuan Lin and the Richmond Symphony.  For other events at the college, visit the college’s Arts and Events listing.

The Ashland Strawberry Faire, now in its 42nd year, is Saturday, June 1, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  The Faire is a free, outdoor, family, and pet-friendly event.  All are welcome to the historic campus of Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Virginia.  Enjoy fresh strawberries, vendors galore, food, beverages, pageants, music, entertainment, and activities for the kids.

The 2024 Down on the Farm Concert Series presented by Hart Nissan with certain proceeds benefitting the Five O’s Tiki Foundation is underway featuring country and rock performances at Hanover Vegetable Farm.

The Montpelier Center for Arts & Education  hosts a variety of events and programs including Music Under the Starts, Celtic Festival, Summer Camps and more!  Be sure to check out the Center’s various art classes

Cross Creek Nursery (the West End Location is located in Ashland) hosts various seminars workshops, and events throughout the year.

The Shelton House at Rural Plains reopens in May for tours every weekend through October 31 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.  Be sure to enjoy the Walking Trails at Rural Plains any day from dawn to dusk.
