Randolph-Macon College Engineering Program Granted ABET Accreditation

Randolph-Macon College, a nationally recognized residential college of 1620 students located in Ashland, Virginia, has been accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET for its Bachelor’s degree program in Engineering.  ABET is the global accreditor of college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology.  ABET accreditation assures that programs meet standards to produce graduates ready to enter critical technical fields that are leading the way in innovation and emerging technologies and anticipating the welfare and safety needs of the public.

“ABET accreditation has been the gold standard in Engineering programs that we sought when we first developed the major and added it to our curriculum in 2019,” noted Randolph-Macon College President Robert R. Lindgren. “The program’s smooth path to accreditation is a testament to the visionary work of our program leadership and faculty in building and shepherding the program. Our Engineering major has already become highly sought after by RMC applicants. And the early successes of our recent graduates make clear that it is both a game changer for our College and for our students.”

“We are so proud of how our Engineering major prepares students for the workforce in these important fields and honored to have the critical ABET seal of approval,” added Head of Engineering Programs Dr. James McLeskey. “We distinguished our program with hands-on learning opportunities like internships, personal attention from faculty, paid research opportunities, and a reputation for developing good communication skills, ethics, and the ability to live and work as global citizens. With ABET accreditation, I see bright days ahead for our Engineering program.”
Sought worldwide, ABET’s voluntary peer-review process is highly respected because it adds critical value to academic programs in the technical disciplines, where quality, precision and safety are of the utmost importance.

Developed by technical professionals from ABET’s member societies, ABET criteria focus on what students experience and learn. ABET accreditation reviews look at program curricula, faculty, facilities, and institutional support and are conducted by teams of highly skilled professionals from industry, academia and government, with expertise in the ABET disciplines.  ABET,a nonprofit, non-governmental organization with ISO 9001:2015 certification, currently accredits 4,564 programs at 895 colleges and universities in 40 countries and areas.  More information about ABET, its member societies and the accreditation criteria used to evaluate programs can be found at www.abet.org.
