As anticipation builds for a successful new year, we also take time to reflect on our top stories of 2023. Not surprisingly, the most-read stories are those that highlighted the moments that helped us innovate, prosper, and grow over the past year.

SANMAR CORPORATION TO ESTABLISH COMPANY’S LARGEST DISTRIBUTION OPERATION IN HANOVER COUNTY, VA
March 14, 2023
SanMar Corporation, a leading supplier of wholesale accessories and apparel, will invest at least $50 million to establish a distribution operation in the East Coast Commerce Center in Hanover County. The 1.1 million-square-foot speculative distribution building was developed by Equity Industrial Partners Corp. and Raith Capital Partners and will be SanMar’s largest operation, becoming the flagship center for the company’s East Coast distributions. CEEUS, INC. TO INVEST $37 MILLION IN HANOVER COUNTY, VA FACILITY
December 21, 2023
CEEUS, Inc., a member-owned electrical distributor that serves cooperatives, municipals, and investor-owned utilities, will invest $37 million to establish a 187,000-square-foot warehouse and distribution facility in Hanover County to support customers in Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware. Virginia successfully competed with North Carolina and South Carolina for the project, which will create 30 new jobs. Read more here.
CASCADES STARTS CONTAINERBOARD PRODUCTION LINE IN HANOVER, VA

Cascades Inc., a leader in the recovery and manufacturing of green packaging and hygiene products, announced that it has produced its first roll of 100% recycled containerboard at its Bear Island facility in Hanover County, Virginia on May 2, 2023. Read more here.
VIRGINIA ARTESIAN BOTTLING COMPANY TO INVEST $3 MILLION TO INCREASE CAPACITY IN HANOVER COUNTY, VA
October 6, 2023
Virginia Artesian® Bottling Company, a family-owned bottled water company, will invest $3 million to expand in Hanover County. The company will expand its warehouse space to increase capacity and add an additional blow mold line to its existing in Mechanicsville. The project will create 13 new jobs. Read more here.
HANOVER COUNTY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT RECEIVES 2023 IEDC EXCELLENCE IN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT GOLD AWARD

The Hanover County Department of Economic Development received a 2023 Excellence in Economic Development Gold Award from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) which was announced at the IEDC 2023 Annual Conference during the inaugural Recognition Night event in Dallas, Texas on September 19, 2023. The award was bestowed specifically for the organization’s work in the Digital Media category. Read more here.
DEIC AWARDED DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY GRANT TO SUPPORT HYDROGEN AND NUCLEAR STARTUPS

The Dominion Energy Innovation Center (DEIC), a public private partnership founded in 2009 by Hanover County, Town of Ashland, and Dominion Energy, was recently announced as a semifinalist in the Department of Energy’s EPIC Prize Challenge. Along with the recognition of being one of the top 24 energy incubators in the United States, the DEIC was awarded a $50,000 grant to develop new programming in support of nuclear and hydrogen technology startups.
