Hanover’s Perspective
Hanover County Economic Development Receives 2023 IEDC Excellence in Economic Development Gold Award
The Hanover County Department of Economic Development received a 2023 Excellence in Economic Development Gold Award from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) which was announced at the IEDC 2023 Annual Conference during the inaugural Recognition Night event in Dallas, Texas on September 19, 2023. The award was bestowed specifically for the organization’s work in the Digital Media category (population between 25,000 – 200,000) to assist more than 4,500 Hanover businesses with a county population of 113,000± citizens.
“Hanover County, Virginia has raised the bar for excellence in economic development with its Hiring In Hanover, VA App. This award is a testament to Hanover County Economic Development’s dedication to its residents and businesses and serves as a great example of how economic development can help a community for the better,” said Nathan Ohle, IEDC President and CEO. “It is IEDC’s honor and privilege to present Hanover County Economic Development with this award and recognize its leadership and innovation in the field of economic development!”
Every year IEDC looks specifically for economic development organizations, government entities, initiatives, and programs that have demonstrated consistent, exemplary performance in the economic development profession, leading the execution of projects that have a significant impact on revitalizing communities, and playing a major role in shaping and improving the practice of economic development.
“As businesses and citizens pivoted to adjust to new employment and recruitment conditions created by the pandemic, our department’s outreach efforts quickly uncovered the need for a local job board to assist our local businesses and job seekers. Hanover County Economic Development created the Hiring in Hanover, VA App in July 2020 to meet this need. The app’s use has continued to grow and is marketed to citizens and Hanover-based businesses by our department as well as the Hanover County Chamber of Commerce, and it is also offered as a hiring tool during regional and county school jobs fairs,” said Brandon S. Turner, Director of Hanover County Economic Development. “We are honored to have received this prestigious recognition by the International Economic Development Council.”
