When Remedi SeniorCare, one of the country’s leading long-term care pharmacies, began their relocation search, they had a unique set of requirements: the facility needed to be able to accommodate their automated robotic dispensing technology, have convenient highway access to support long-care residents throughout Virginia and along the East Coast and the professional workforce to maintain their sophisticated proprietary robotic technology.
Remedi SeniorCare found everything they needed—and more—in their 22,000-square-foot facility in Hanover County. The company has been in the Richmond area since 2009. They moved to the larger space in Hanover County in 2012, which met their requirements for operations, business environment and future growth plans.
“Since we’ve been in Hanover County, our growth has been tremendous,” said Dale St. Clair, Vice President, East Region at Remedi SeniorCare. “We’ve more than tripled our business and added 60 full-time uniquely skilled professionals.”
The company’s Hanover pharmacy is equipped with Paxit, an automated robotic dispensing technology that delivers resident-specific, unit-dose medication with accuracy rates that reduce drug costs by 15 percent or more.
“We’re revamping and reenergizing the pharmaceutical industry, and Hanover County was the best place to support our innovative technology.”
“Remedi SeniorCare proprietary technology was designed by nurses for nurses, who saw a need for change from the traditional 30-day “blister packs” or “bingo cards” that had been the industry standard since the 1950s,” explained St. Clair. “Paxit’s innovative technology packages pills in small, easy-to-open pouches that contain a patient’s name and a day’s worth of medication—a format that improves both the accuracy and efficiency of medication administration.”
To maintain and operate their sophisticated robotics technology, Remedi SeniorCare demands a specialized, highly trained workforce.
“Our Hanover County location allows us to pull from a larger talent pool of electromechanics specialists, engineers, nurses and pharmacy technicians,” said St. Clair. “We also recruit military veterans who have the specialized skills in electromechanics that they can transfer to a technology-driven career in healthcare.”
Remedi SeniorCare’s Lakeridge Parkway location offers proximity to I-95, I-295 and I-64, which allows the company to serve residents living in skilled nursing facilities, assisted living communities, and rehabilitation centers throughout Virginia, as well as 13 other states from Florida to Maine.
“We’re two to three hours from our entire Virginia customer base, and our central location means that we can attract employees from the Greater Richmond area without having to relocate or have a long commute,” said St. Clair. “I would encourage any company to consider Hanover County—the positive business climate, strong labor pool and proximity to major highways make this a great place to thrive.”
